At Miramar Sailing School, most of our RYA courses are bookable by individual students. If we only get one student booking a particular week, we still proceed with the course.

However, for Yachtmaster Coastal & Offshore candidates, we have to adopt a different policy.

Yachtmaster Exams are independently examined. This means that we need to bring in an outside Yachtmaster Examiner. Examiners will not examine single students and are often reluctant to examine just 2. The minimum tends to be 3.

For this reason we cannot schedule our Yachtmaster Preparation Weeks with Examination until we have at least 2 students prepared to book for the same period.

We approach this by building a group mailing list of all prospective candidates and keeping them all informed of developments on available dates. As soon as a candidate indicates they wish to book a particular date then everyone is advised, and hopefully at least one more candidate can fit in with that schedule.

Another factor affecting scheduling is the availability of examiners in Antigua. During our summer season, there are hardly any. However, between December and May they tend to follow the Caribbean sailing community across the Atlantic meaning we have several to choose from. This is why we are confident we can offer Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation and Exam during these months. This does not mean we will not offer Yachtmaster training between June and November so Please Enquire for dates during this period.

The calendar below represents firm dates where we have Yachtmaster training already booked, and the number of remaining places available. It also shows provisional dates for the Yachtmaster Theory, and Preparation Weeks with Exam Package. Each course within the Package can be booked separately.

Please Note:
1.There are travel and subsistence costs associated with bringing in the independent examiner. These are equally split between all examination candidates, and are not included in the Cost/Student figure.
2. The cost of examination has to be paid directly to the RYA through the examiner. These are not included in the Cost/Student figure.
3. Places on examination only may be booked, however priority is given to students who have booked Yachtmaster Preparation Weeks.
