This picture shows the moment when Pippa, the Miramar Sailing School Chief Instructor made VHF contact with the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge rowers “Team Wadadli” representing Antigua for the first time in this event.
Having spent the previous night anchored off the south coast of Barbuda, Pippa set her first crew of Yachtmaster “Xpress” students for 2016, the navigational challenge of heading east into the Atlantic and intercepting the rowers as they approached Antigua at the end of their 52 day row from La Gomera. Given only the latest rowing rhumb line, approximate speed and course, our Yachtmaster Xpress crew managed to find Team Wadadli, a 28ft rowing boat in the middle of a huge expanse of ocean, at 06:15 after 180 nm of sailing. Team Wadadli finished their epic journey about 8 hours later. Well done to both the rowers and the Yachtmaster Xpress crew.
